Yes! (It's Friday!)
After a seemingly perpetual work week, it's finally over. Thank God for Friday evenings!
My wife went out to dinner with a friend tonight, so the kids and I were on our own for dinner and the bedtime routine. It's a good thing; my wife desperately needs her "girl time" and lately, hasn't had much of an opportunity to anything but work, work and more work. I hope she had a blast- she deserves it.
After a makeshift dinner of shredded chicken burritos, the kids and I came upstairs so that they could get ready for bed, and I could unwind. As I got on the Mac, I found myself led to Hulu's website, where a banner for "It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown" was on display.
I instantly thought of my mother. She had always loved the Peanuts characters. When I was young, we'd stay up on special occasions to watch the cartoons each year. No matter what else was going on, how broke we were, she'd always put in the effort to make it a wonderful experience. Often hot chocolate, or a bowl of popcorn and 60 minutes spent with me made all the difference in the world.
These treasures are something I don't often think about throughout the year. However, it always makes things "feel" more like the Holidays when the Peanuts, Rankin/Bass and other productions begin airing on network television. (Or on the Internet!)
After calling the kids into the room, we soon found ourselves watching Charlie Brown, Linus, Lucy, Snoopy and others. Lots of laughs, and warm memories were passed down another generation tonight.
That was for you, mom.
Good Night
