After posting how our lives are running as of late, and how I truly I felt last night, this morning's podcast revealed another side of God's goodness: correction.
Proverbs 24:10 (English Standard Version)
10If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small.
Ouch. A trial run in financial adversity and we crumble.
No matter what we do or how we act, God is justified in whatever he chooses to do (or not) for his children. Because he's a much better parent than we are, it stands to reason that his ways might not always make sense to us. For example, if I tell my son "no" in response to a request to allow him to ride his skateboard downhill after school, he's bound to become upset. He might not understand my reasoning behind the answer at the time, such as the dangers of traffic, but through maturity he would come to know the truth. Maybe that's what God is doing with us. Perhaps there's a lesson or two left to learn.
Job lost everything he had and the people he loved. He even lost his health. But through clinging to the Lord, he was completely restored. Did he encounter affliction? Yes, but it was temporary.
Paul was imprisoned and shipwrecked, but even these hardships were temporal. He came out more on fire for the Lord, than ever before.
Stephen was persecuted and eventually killed. It's a sad fact from an earthly standpoint. From an eternal perspective however, he's in a better place now.
Will we die if hardship comes our way? It's possible, but not very likely. Therefore, the alternative is to LIVE. Things will get better. It's amazing what 24 hours will do for your spirit when you stop throwing temper tantrums and listen to the Word. While we're in no different a place today, these lessons are priceless.
Good Night
