Our Small Group Rocks!
Tonight's small group was loud, chaotic, and messy. Food was everywhere and kids were all over the place; upstairs and downstairs, inside and out. It was wonderful. The people in our group are from all walks of life; A Teacher, a family equal in size to our own, troubled childhoods, brokenness shared and the Bible's guidance (via Matthew chapter 5) was on tap.
The repeated lesson was how anger and murder share the same roots. If you recall, that's what we'd been discussing last night. It's a topic that hits home more often than I care to admit. We also spoke of how peace doesn't necessarily mean being passive and rolling over so that people take full advantage of us. No, we need to fight with a pure heart and level head to preserve peace. It's tough work, but it's a worthy goal.
Matthew 5:9 (English Standard Version)
9"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.
I want to be a son of God!
On a funny note, when my wife and I were at the grocery store picking up some supplies for this evening, we spied a set of cans in the "specialty foods" aisle that took me back to my childhood. Loma-Linda foods! Big Franks, Fry-Chic were present and accounted for.
These vegetarian foods were the very same items that I'd eaten when my family was attending the Seventh Day Adventist church (and adopting their no-meat beliefs). I fondly remember plucking the faux-franks from their watery chamber and heating them up, just like a ball-park 'dog. My wife doesn't necessarily agree with my train of thought, but I swear I'm going to buy a can or two on payday, just to give my kids the same experiences I grew up with.
Good Night
