Happy Halloween!

Today was a pretty busy day! After a morning trip to the grocery store, my wife took our daughter to her horseback riding lesson. I stayed home and began performing some domestic duties while she was gone. Before long, everyone was home and it was time for lunch.

Afterward, my wife and I issued a couple of chores for the kids to perform, while we went to the church in order to help set up for the "Trunk or Treat" harvest party slated for tonight. After a quick setup and retrieval of the kids, it was off to our small group!

Finally, after some condensed (but amazing) fellowship with our dear friends, we all collectively went to the church for the "Trunk or Treat". It turned out better than we ever expected! Many creative trunks of cars and trucks, decked out with lights, pumpkins and of course, candy were present! Included were popcorn, coffee and cupcakes for the adults, while the children explored face painting, gold-fishing, field-goal kicking, arts and crafts and a bounce house. It was so much nicer than going door to door, and I think the kids had a lot more fun!

Many thanks to all of the volunteers who made this happen for the local kids! (You, too Mamasahn and Papasahn) I can't WAIT for next year!

It's Raining Outside (And I Love It)

As I sit here at the keyboard, to my left is the bedroom window which is open so that the cool air from the outdoors can waft inside. With it comes the sound of raindrops hitting the ground, as well as droplets falling onto the treetops nearby. It's very peaceful.

I hope that you're finding peace tonight, no matter where you are, or what you're facing. Give thanks for your shelter and for the meal you've consumed at dinner tonight. Say a prayer for the friends and family who surround you. Thank the Lord who saved you and calls you His own.

Yes! (It's Friday!)


After a seemingly perpetual work week, it's finally over. Thank God for Friday evenings!

My wife went out to dinner with a friend tonight, so the kids and I were on our own for dinner and the bedtime routine. It's a good thing; my wife desperately needs her "girl time" and lately, hasn't had much of an opportunity to anything but work, work and more work. I hope she had a blast- she deserves it.

After a makeshift dinner of shredded chicken burritos, the kids and I came upstairs so that they could get ready for bed, and I could unwind. As I got on the Mac, I found myself led to Hulu's website, where a banner for "It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown" was on display.

I instantly thought of my mother. She had always loved the Peanuts characters. When I was young, we'd stay up on special occasions to watch the cartoons each year. No matter what else was going on, how broke we were, she'd always put in the effort to make it a wonderful experience. Often hot chocolate, or a bowl of popcorn and 60 minutes spent with me made all the difference in the world.

These treasures are something I don't often think about throughout the year. However, it always makes things "feel" more like the Holidays when the Peanuts, Rankin/Bass and other productions begin airing on network television. (Or on the Internet!)

After calling the kids into the room, we soon found ourselves watching Charlie Brown, Linus, Lucy, Snoopy and others. Lots of laughs, and warm memories were passed down another generation tonight.

Blech.

I don't want to. Not tonight.

It seems like we're on the never-ending treadmill of life. Get up early, go to work, come home and make sure dinner is on the table for the kids. Then it's off to making sure the kids' homework, chores and clean up are done. Before you know it, it's after 9:00 PM. By the time we're free to relax and do what we want, we're too tired to do anything, except crawl into bed and repeat the whole routine.

We're not finishing the month as strong as we'd hoped, either. I know we're blessed, but sometimes it's difficult to remember all of the great things in our lives, when we're focusing on our problems instead of the Lord (or the good things He's placed in our lives). Although I don't feel like it, let's think of at least three things we're thankful for.

1. I'm thankful that my salvation is not in question; I've accepted Jesus as my Lord. This can't be undone.
2. I'm thankful for the family the Lord blessed me with.
3. Even though things are pretty bleak for us right now, we have shelter, food and transportation. We might not have prosperity, but we have everything we need tonight.

Sleepy!

Not much tonight- I'm drained, tired and ready for bed. One thing's for certain; no matter how rainy, windy and cold it gets outside, I'm very thankful that God has blessed us with a solid home that is warm, cozy and safe. Everyone is either already, or soon will be in their beds. We were also blessed with dinner this evening, which is more than some people in our neighborhood got to enjoy tonight.

Divine Connections

My wife met me at the local grocery store this afternoon after work. It's right in front of the West Salem transfer station for the public bus system, which I happen to use everyday. We needed a couple of small things and it was raining outside, so she was kind enough to pick me up.

Once inside, we gathered the needed supplies and my wife mentioned that there was a woman she'd seen at a nearby street corner, whom was holding a sign that read "Anything Helps". My wife spent some time explaining the look on the woman's face and the pain and humiliation she must've felt. Evidently, she had been seen on this same corner before, and had been there in the elements for at least a couple of hours today. The Holy Spirit prompted my wife to help her out.

As we drove up the street toward our home, we looked for the woman, only to find that she'd disappeared. We drove up and down the street and prayed aloud; asking for the Lord to prompt her to come back outside, or otherwise make herself apparent to us. Alas, after driving all through the Edgewater district and looping back around toward home, we never saw her.

Why didn't we make a divine connection? Perhaps God was checking the condition of our hearts, to see if we were willing to reach out. In all honesty, my wife was gung ho- from the beginning, while I worried for a minute or two about how we'd buy groceries for someone, when we barely had enough in the bank to cover our own needs. Then, I also made the choice to go with my heart. (It turned out my wife was able to pay for the groceries with some cash, unbeknownst to me).

Perhaps we'll be ready to help this woman again, if we see her in the days to come. Perhaps we'll talk with her and hear her story. We have to trust that although we didn't make the divine connection with her tonight, God is at work. He's got it all under control.

Now, we're primed and ready for our next opportunity to serve, and we have to believe that this woman's needs were met tonight.

Blessed Are Those Who Are Merciful

The title alludes to the topic of our small group gathering tonight.

I never realized how difficult it can be to be merciful to someone that you may not want to offer it to. It's easier to be nice to the people you like, or whom you know aren't a threat to you in any way. But it's altogether different to be gracious to those who rub you the wrong way. Sometimes, even the people you like or love are the ones "going against the grain".

Like the rest of the Beatitudes, Jesus drives it home with concepts like "turning the other cheek, offering up your covering, or walking along with then through the rough stuff. I can tell you that although I'm an empathetic listener overall, at times the 'pathetic' listener will emerge. This is especially so, if the person has gotten under my skin and I turn defensive. Sometimes the "default settings" of our human programming are contrary to what the Lord instructs. No wonder the refinement process can take years to complete.

I suppose that's why we attend church, and then meet in small groups so that we can further discuss and unpack the Word. It's also where devotions come to bear; they're the wisdom and means to begin the change into the likeness of Christ.

300 Days of Walking!

We've rounded another corner in the year long journey through the daily life of this Christian. Here's to another two months' worth of blogging! Let's finish this year strong!

To those of you who read my ramblings: a humble thank you. Thank you for your feedback, kind words and comments. It's my hope that an honest look into a person's life can perhaps reveal things in your life as well. Maybe you're not experiencing the ups and down that we have been, but I'm certain there have been topics that have surfaced which have resonated somewhere.

The Christian life on this earth isn't always easy to "walk out" (pun intended) much of the time. But being transformed each day into the likeness of Jesus Christ is the key to truly living. As long as you keep your heart in check, remain humble and keep your sights fixed on Christ, you'll make it through anything.

Earl Nightingale once said "Success is the progressive realization of a worthy goal or ideal.", and I think that's a perfect description of emulating the life of Jesus. It also dovetails nicely into Colossians 3:

1Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. 2Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.

Keep reading your Bible. If you can't, or don't wish to read, listen to it. Plug in to a Bible-based church that shares the good news, and pray that the Holy Spirit would help guide you into a real and personal relationship with Jesus. God bless you!

It's Always Better On Friday!


Or, was it "It's Always Better At Friday's"? At any rate, things are looking up. Here we are, riding out the last few hours of the work week, headed into the weekend.

As I write this, I'm still sitting in my cubicle from work. It's getting late and we've just concluded the second maintenance interval this month. Servers are patched, systems are tested and all seems to be in great shape. I'm thankful these tasks, frustrations and failures of the work week are finally over. I'm leaving these thoughts and memories behind and am looking forward to seeing what the Lord has planned this weekend.

We Serve a Dynamic God!

After being in a funk for the past couple of months and sick this past week, I'm struggling to articulate my true thoughts and feelings each night. It's been difficult to write- but thank God for the strength to continue this journey!

Often, I wonder if the Lord delays blessings, or spares hardships based on our heart's condition. We know that God doesn't second guess himself, or often change His mind. But these verses from Jeremiah tell me that our God is a dynamic God. He always wants what's best for us, but will readjust His plans based our choices, thoughts and actions.

You'll Have To Forgive Me...

For the past week, I've felt really run down. I'm not alone; my wife and kids have fought off the same fatigue, sore throat, earaches and cough. Sickness is truly irritating. I'm sure that's why the enemy loves it.

Tonight marked the parent/youth night at our church. After a meal together, the youth pastors and parents got together in the youth center to discuss the next years' goals for the kids, while the kids and other leadership participated in fellowship in the auditorium. Trips, missions and camps are on the horizon for 2011. All of which are designed to help our children develop their own relationship with Jesus Christ, while serving others.

Awesome.

On the spiritual front, I have to share that my wife's paycheck this week was more than we'd expected. After a couple of weeks of really beginning to doubt that the Lord would come through for us financially, it would appear he's beginning to turn things around. We were able to pick up a few groceries and fill up the truck with some gasoline. We'll also be able to pay for my daughter's horse riding lesson tomorrow evening. I can't wait to see how He comes through as the month draws to a close and we continue to need his provision.

Hanging In There

Please continue to pray for the health and healing of our family. Your prayers are absolutely appreciated. I'm a bit loopy on NyQuil, so there's not much to write about. I've got to tell you though, spending time in Isaiah and Jeremiah is revealing some interesting perspectives on the people of Israel and Judah. In my current state of mind, I can't clearly articulate what it is I'm feeling exactly, but I'll try to share some of these insights tomorrow. Now, it's time for some sleep!

We Have The Best Small Group In The World

Tonight was the best, most honest, laugh-filled fellowship in small groups to go! Our dear friends were hosting at their place tonight and most of our ensemble was present and accounted for.

But, lets back up for a minute. Let me tell you about how this great day began.

Since our friends' eldest son (and ours) was away at RED church leadership camp, there was a vacancy in their monthly rotation for serving lunch at the Union Gospel Mission. Our friend asked if one of our other boys might be interested in helping. After speaking to the family, I decided to go and help out. Not knowing what to expect, I washed up and donned an apron and gloves, as well as the slotted spoon which would be my weapon of choice for slinging coleslaw.

Every person who came through the lunch line was so polite and kind with their words, that it melted my heart. Had this been a restaurant, the customers may have been rude, complained about this or that, or simply been sour. Not the homeless men and women here. No, these people were friendly, genuine human beings who only by a matter of circumstance, or a few choices, were standing on the other side of the counter. They were me, and I was them. Our souls equate in the eyes of God.

It was an absolute HONOR serving them. Anyone who assists or supports a mission such as UGM are tithing directly into the lives of someone who needs it. It's about as simple as can be.

We're supposed to help the poor, with a pure and generous heart.

After this eye-opening event, my wife and I ran to grab some supplies for this evening's small group. The Canned Food Warehouse was the destination of choice- and $12 later, we had almost everything we needed for dinner (another pit-stop at Roth's would complete the meal). Thank the Lord that we had the ability to buy the ingredients and had a place to go to prepare and consume them.

Once we arrived at our friends' home, we set about the construction of a 7 pizza dinner. That's right, I said seven pizzas! Between our combined families, along with one other man from church, the "small" group consisted of 13 people tonight- and we were missing at least one more person. Granted, 5 were adults and the rest were children. But, half the fun is gathering our kids together too and just letting loose for an evening. Adults in one room for fellowship, kids in another playing games, etc.

Man, we love these people! Thank you Jesus!

Unnecessary Drama

It seems that no matter how I try to live my life, drama seems to inject itself at the most inconvenient times. Last night, I posted honestly about our latest addition to the family. I wasn't (and am still not) crazy at the idea of having another pet. More food, more medical bills, more mess to clean up after, etc. We already have enough of a time trying to get things to work out each month and now we have one more family member taking up resources. We now have as many pets as children.

It's not my preference, but I know my son loves that stupid dog. If it were up to me, we'd have fewer pets around the house. There are 5 other people living here and their desires matter as well. In order to do the right thing, I have to endure the rest of this weekend with an open heart and mind, if I'm to make an impartial decision. A choice which could end up hurting my son deeply.

I'm hoping that the following verses help, because I feel that the Lord has placed them on my heart tonight. Well, he placed the subject of selfishness on my heart, and a quick reference uncovered these gems:

Honestly, I hope that Romeo ends up going to another home (we have a dear friend whom has shown interest), but I want to do what's right for our family and my son's heart. I can't be a pushover, but I can't be stone-hearted, either. I pray God helps me make the right decision.

Meet Romeo


I don't know what the deal is: animals keep finding their way into our home. Although I do not necessarily hate animals (I actually like them, it's what they do that I take issue with), I just don't want a house full of them. I never have and doubt I ever will. The few we have are enough- and in some cases even these drive me crazy with the damage they do to our home.

While I was at work this afternoon, my wife called to inform me that an associate of hers was giving up their little Pug very soon. Months before, we were given a heads up of the possibility, at which point I agreed in a moment of weakness that another dog may be a good thing. I never thought it would happen, and I certainly didn't want it to happen. Wouldn't you know it, this situation landed the dog in our home for a trial run this afternoon.

Meet Romeo. He's a cute little dog, and he's potty trained, but he has special diet and allergy needs. He has a cute little bed and cute little toys. He likes kids and cats and other dogs. Our son loves him, but I'm not sure of how it will all work out. If he doesn't stay here, he'll need to go to another good home.

So far, it's been crazy with our existing dog and the kids aren't getting into bed as they're supposed to. God help us.

Please Pray For My Son

My son has been home from school the past couple of days with a sore throat, cough and fever. Strep Throat has been going around our part of town and we feared the worst when a fever of 103 degrees hit him out of nowhere a few nights ago. However, a doctor's appointment today revealed that there was no Streptococcal bacteria in the short-term culture.

Please pray that the 24 hour culture also comes back negative. Strep is nasty; causing strep throat, strep pneumonia and other ailments.

It appears to be another nasty cold (this will be the second or third since the beginning of the school year) that will hopefully pass with plenty of rest and fluids. I've been feeling so/so, as has my wife. Thankfully, our other children have not been coughing, nor complaining about severe throat pain.

Please Lord, let it stay that way. Bring your healing touch to our family. Amen. Thank you, Jesus.

Holding On To Hope


69 Days, 8 hours.

That's how long 33 miners in Chile spend underneath over 2,000 feet of rock, isolated from the outside world. They had each other and their faith- and the hope that someday, they would be reunited with their families and friends.

Can you imagine spending over two months in the dark? Although there was limited communication with the surface, the environment that these men survived in had to have been pretty primitive compared to our homes and places of business. Two months is a long time for anyone, but it had to feel like eternity to them.

There was no television, Internet access, movies, restaurants or outdoor activities to pass the time. Amenities like bathrooms, heat, microwaves and cellular service were unlikely to be available. They were working diligently to help plan their own escape, digging in three shifts. One thing there was plenty of, was time to truly connect with other human beings and to think about what's important. There was ample time for prayer as well. Can you imagine how their outlook on life has permanently changed?

Thankfully, everyone is safe now. God bless them!

Humble Pie

After posting how our lives are running as of late, and how I truly I felt last night, this morning's podcast revealed another side of God's goodness: correction.

Proverbs 24:10 (English Standard Version)


10If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small.

Ouch. A trial run in financial adversity and we crumble.

No matter what we do or how we act, God is justified in whatever he chooses to do (or not) for his children. Because he's a much better parent than we are, it stands to reason that his ways might not always make sense to us. For example, if I tell my son "no" in response to a request to allow him to ride his skateboard downhill after school, he's bound to become upset. He might not understand my reasoning behind the answer at the time, such as the dangers of traffic, but through maturity he would come to know the truth. Maybe that's what God is doing with us. Perhaps there's a lesson or two left to learn.

Job lost everything he had and the people he loved. He even lost his health. But through clinging to the Lord, he was completely restored. Did he encounter affliction? Yes, but it was temporary.

Paul was imprisoned and shipwrecked, but even these hardships were temporal. He came out more on fire for the Lord, than ever before.

Stephen was persecuted and eventually killed. It's a sad fact from an earthly standpoint. From an eternal perspective however, he's in a better place now.

Will we die if hardship comes our way? It's possible, but not very likely. Therefore, the alternative is to LIVE. Things will get better. It's amazing what 24 hours will do for your spirit when you stop throwing temper tantrums and listen to the Word. While we're in no different a place today, these lessons are priceless.

Not In a Good Place

God let me down today.

As you may recall, we decided to go all-in this month. We struggled to commit last month, but we felt that we were supposed to go for broke in October. Things didn't add up for us financially and I felt that God was distant. It was lonely and painful. Our hearts were yearning for a closer relationship with God. We want the blessings that God is supposed to provide his people when they're obedient. We were tired of carrying our burdens and messing things up over and over again.

Well, we were able to pay our bills at the beginning of the month and stock up on groceries. But first, we went all in- gross income, reckless abandon- trusting the Lord. Sure we knew things could get tough, but God would come rushing in and help, right? In Malachi he says to test him in this!

10 Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the LORD of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.

We hung on tight... and pushed back feelings of doubt and defeat. We took a leap of faith (which has been REALLY difficult for me in the past), were certain the Lord would protect, guide and help steer us through. We were happy, hopeful and optimistic that no matter what, He had our backs.

Maybe it would be a miracle check in the mail, maybe not. God can do whatever He wants. Maybe things wouldn't turn around immediately, but we'd hoped it wouldn't get worse. We waited, prayed and trusted. Then a bill came that we couldn't meet. Then another outstanding check we needed cover. Then we needed supplies. Where was God? He didn't show up. We checked our hearts and attitudes. We prayed and pleaded. Nothing.

Yet God never makes mistakes. So, I'm left holding my hands in the air, wondering what I actually did that was wrong. I left my burden for God to deal with- right to the absolute end. I fought my urge to control and self-solve.

As I sat down tonight at the 11th hour, an automated draft from our checking account is about to transpire. If we let it go, a chain of credit overage fees and dings are headed our way. God can do what He wants, but any being that loves us, is just and kind should genuinely care about our responsibilities. We put God first. If we hadn't, we could have made our bills. We put ourselves at risk and hoped he'd show up.

I was forced to nearly max out another credit card, in order to transfer funds into our account, so that we could cover the automatic draft. Thankfully that responsibility will be met, but we'd hoped God would have looked out for us, instead of leaving me to have to solve the problem myself. I'm so angry that I laid something down and didn't touch it. Repeatedly. But in the end, right before it was too late, I stepped in and had to solve my own issue.

We committed to going all in, but feel that we should no longer pursue it. Once again, I feel like I have to look out for myself, control the situation and hope for the best. I'm struggling to understand where God is in all of this. And, it doesn't help my level of timid trust in Him.

We obviously will need food later this month. The car needs a window repair, brakes, tires and obviously there's always expenses that go along with owning a home. We're looking at some expenses with trying to address some health concerns, the kids seem to run out of school supplies at inopportune times and there's always some money drain in any given month. It's life. It's also depressing.

All over the nation, people are losing their jobs, homes (our neighbor is one of them) and life savings. Around the world, people are suffering. Most of these people do not know, or trust in a Living, Loving God. Although compared to many, we're not suffering in the same way- but we're teetering on the edge. I'd hoped that by clinging and believing in God, that it would somehow form a safety net of covering and protection. It doesn't necessarily feel like that right now.

My hope is that this "book" is half written. I pray that at the end of the month, we can look back and see the hand of God at work in our lives- in a positive way, instead of allowing more and more negativity to take us out.

Our Small Group Rocks!


Tonight's small group was loud, chaotic, and messy. Food was everywhere and kids were all over the place; upstairs and downstairs, inside and out. It was wonderful. The people in our group are from all walks of life; A Teacher, a family equal in size to our own, troubled childhoods, brokenness shared and the Bible's guidance (via Matthew chapter 5) was on tap.

The repeated lesson was how anger and murder share the same roots. If you recall, that's what we'd been discussing last night. It's a topic that hits home more often than I care to admit. We also spoke of how peace doesn't necessarily mean being passive and rolling over so that people take full advantage of us. No, we need to fight with a pure heart and level head to preserve peace. It's tough work, but it's a worthy goal.

On a funny note, when my wife and I were at the grocery store picking up some supplies for this evening, we spied a set of cans in the "specialty foods" aisle that took me back to my childhood. Loma-Linda foods! Big Franks, Fry-Chic were present and accounted for.

These vegetarian foods were the very same items that I'd eaten when my family was attending the Seventh Day Adventist church (and adopting their no-meat beliefs). I fondly remember plucking the faux-franks from their watery chamber and heating them up, just like a ball-park 'dog. My wife doesn't necessarily agree with my train of thought, but I swear I'm going to buy a can or two on payday, just to give my kids the same experiences I grew up with.

A Day Of Lessons

Let me tell you about some lessons learned today:

1. When you're 37 years old, going to bed at 2:00 AM, only to be woken up at 7:00 AM so that you can meet up with friends for coffee is never a good idea.

2. If you're running on a few hours' sleep and you're going to meet up with friends at 7:00 AM, a "venti" from Starbucks is in order, not a "grande".

3. There are no coincidences; that's God connecting people and opportunity.

4. Everything happens in God's time- not ours.

5. Arguing with someone regarding a subject you know a great deal about (and assuming they know nothing about) may end up producing a lesson in humility. Even experts are wrong, sometimes.

6. God views the anger in our hearts as murder. While we may not actually kill another human being, the feelings of anger and hatred we deal with on a daily basis are cut from the same cloth as murder. This isn't far off, it's right in my face, in my daily life.

It's Time for Rest

Maintenance ran long tonight, but overall the items on the agenda went well. I'm thankful to the Lord that He helped step me through a serious upgrade (if it went badly, it would have been an even longer night).

The Rubber Is Meeting The Road

Since going all-in at the beginning of this month, the time has come to trust that the Lord will provide for the rest of the month. After a trip to Costco last weekend, there is food, but we're already tapped in terms of monetary resources this week. Our heart is in the right place, but fear and stress are trying to settle into my heart.

We have a few more weeks of the month to get through, and some other financial obligations to keep over the next few days. Things aren't adding up. We're standing on the Lord's promise to protect us and provide for our needs. He told us to test him in Malachi 3:10 and that's exactly what we're doing!

10 Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the LORD of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.

I'm not sharing this situation with you for pity, attention, or to glorify our efforts, nor to "put it out there" to prompt human action. Things are tight, but we're being obedient to the Lord's instruction. We are already a blessed family and are trying to take the next step in obedience.

And, we want to unfold this for you step by step, as the rest of the month unfolds. My hope is that we can look back in a few weeks and see what God has done to pull us through.

He'll show up. God has to show up!

Empty Yet Again...

My wife and I talked this morning while commuting to work and discovered we're both fried. Sickness is trying to take both of us down, we're completely stressed out and the kids are out of control. We can't seem to stop this crazy roller coaster ride each day and hit some form of stride.

Help, Lord.

Hanging on Tightly

I'm choosing to hang on to the promises of the Lord. I don't know what it means, or how it will happen, but I choose to believe in the Lord's provision. One day at a time, I'm going to make the choice to trust in Him.

Small Groups Rock!


We kicked off our Small Groups To Go program this evening, with about half of our intended small group. Hopefully, we'll be "fully staffed" on our new Sunday afternoon schedule, however, it was pretty awesome tonight. Good food (Thanks for the wonderful burgers, Bryan!) and great company paved the way for a serious trip into the Beatitudes. (We became sidelined more than once with off-color jokes and a quick clip from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, to demonstrate what a leap of faith might look like.)

I'm Very Thankful!

I'm so very thankful that we live in a country that, for all of the problems we face, is a wonderful place to live. No where else can we live out our faith and not face 'true' prosecution. Our pastor touched on this today; the worst thing most of us will have to face in America is being teased. Other Christians throughout the rest of the world are being martyred for their faith. Think about that the next time someone calls you out about following the Lord.

Feeling Sick (and Great at the Same Time)

For days, I've been battling a cold that has been passed around our house for the last 2 weeks. Fatigue, sore throat, runny nose and coughing. No fun. Meanwhile, God is surrounding us with quality people and doing some things in our lives that are absolutely wonderful. I feel great about that!

It's All About Gratitude


I want to say "Thank You" to my friend, Scott. He came by the house this evening to try and repair to our broken car window. If you recall, for a month now, our car window has been broken. We've had the door panel taken off, and the window suspended by a screwdriver. It was pretty Ghetto.

After disassembling the window regulator, it became obvious that the damage to the cables and pulleys was definitely caused by the force of someone trying to break in to our car (If you recall, we found full hand-prints on the window that day as well). Whoever wanted our car, came very close to getting their way. It was only by the grace of God it wasn't stolen.

Although we do in fact need a new regulator, Scott was able to put the assembly back together, so that the window was it it's "upright" position. A quick disconnect of the motor assembly and the door panel was reinstalled. The net result is a fully functional door; lock, speakers and handle, but a fixed window. I'll take it! This allows time for us to save up for the replacement parts, without the dangers of the rainy season flooding or causing mold to build up.

I'm so thankful that God put friends like Scott in my life!
