Wake Up

It was funny. In the aftermath of the sleepover birthday party for my son last night and earlier today, sleep was minimal and we'd become very tired this afternoon. After an early dinner at our favorite place, Annette's, we'd all anticipated pushing through church tonight, so we could come home and go to sleep! I wasn't savoring the day anymore; I was pushing to end the day.

At church, I found myself watching the countdown to worship and realized that as each second ticked away, that was a second I'd never get back. Then it was a minute I'd never get back. Finally, five minutes had passed by and I'd never get them back!

Then I started thinking about all of the time I've wasted in my lifetime, doing things that really don't matter or that don't add value to my life or the lives of others. That equates to many wasted hours, minutes and seconds that I'll never get back.

When our pastor began his message tonight, one of the main topics in Ephesians rang out like a bell.

Ephesians 5:15-21 (New International Version)

15Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, 16making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. 17Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is. 18Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit. 19Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, 20always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
21Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.

In other words: Stop wasting time doing things that are wrong, immature or that don't matter at all. Be thankful and build each other up in spirit. Live as Jesus does.

So, Get Busy!

Good Night
